Maratha Military Landscapes of India have been officially inscribed as India’s 44th UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Recognized at the 47th Session of the World Heritage Committee in Paris, 2025.

This prestigious recognition celebrates: India’s enduring cultural legacy and The architectural brilliance of Maratha forts and military structures.

From the majestic Sahyadris to the Deccan Plateau, these landscapes reflect the strategic genius and valor of the Maratha Empire.

The forts of Salher, Shivneri, Lohgad, Khanderi, Raigad, Rajgad, Pratapgad, Suvarnadurg, Panhala, Vijay Durg and Sindhudurg in Maharashtra, and Gingee Fort in Tamil Nadu.

Another feather in cap of India’s glorious history and heritage.
